IOEN Roadmap — Phase 3: Ecosystem Services

Our Three Phases
As described in our Roadmap, we see our future in three, overlapping, phases.
During phase one: Establishment, we rewarded early adopters who staked their tokens and we offered large discounts for future energy credits. The objective was to build liquidity and stability into the IOEN treasury. With phase two, we encourage participants to help build microgrids, by raising awareness of current and upcoming projects, and by getting personally involved with smart devices and an energy-saving app. IOEN’s vision is a bottom-up, grass roots movement where we have strength in numbers. Each phase will offer complementary sets of incentives to establish the IOEN and a thriving ecosystem of applications and services built on top.
With the network and organisation beginning to take shape, we can look ahead to phase three: the energy service economy.
We see the roadmap from technical, commercial, and community perspectives, with milestones planned in each of these areas.
Phase Three: Building out the Ecosystem
The Proof of Participation incentive will always continue as new devices are added; phase three has arrived when the value of Proof of Balance overtakes it. Proof of Balance is the measurable output that loads are shifted to use renewable energy. It also rewards contributions to the new energy economy in second order ways, which we will explore here.
In phase two we began support for the open source community, establishing forums, repositories, and simple code projects to begin to build. In phase three IOEN releases both the user app and a device aggregation/grid management software as white labels, which means local microgrids can brand and promote to their respective communities. We start a regular series of conferences around the IOEN SDK.
The bridge between Holochain-based microgrids and the IOEN blockchain is established (“hApps and DApps”). This is the IOEN to IOEC connection between the macro and micro economies.
With each microgrid, the templates to create the local ‘constitutions’ are refined and fed back for the greater network. Microgrids develop their own rewards schemes to incentivise their participants relevant to local cultural norms. And the globally available catalogues of supporting devices and an “App store” of data visualisation and utilisation take shape.
Second and third-order value includes a reputation layer (if the community so chooses) and virtual groupings of similar interests we can only imagine at this point. With this, the new energy economy has truly arrived.
Act Local, Think Global
IOEN is the next generation of digital energy management and optimisation technology. IOEN tech enables an interconnected system of virtual microgrids that facilitate transactions within and between local energy ecosystems: from the appliance level to energy generation, storage, and consumption.
We are the backbone of the new tokenised energy ecosystem, building out the global clean energy ecosystem wherever you are, device by device.
