How might we address the lack of practical design education at Cornell? The problem is that HCI at Cornell emphasises academic papers and research. As a result, we designed a course that taught students about product design in an industry setting and helped them explore and design against a problem in a form of a case study. The course was 10 weeks long and 1-credit. The lectures focused on product-thinking, design process, and designing with Sketch. Some students ended up pursuing design internships and one even received critique the Facebook Design Team on their class project.
