Celebrating Japonica’s 50 Day Anniversary
A huge arigatou to all our writers and readers
Fifty days ago we started Japonica as a publication for Japanese culture. We weren’t sure what the publication would become, but we thought it would be interesting and fun.
Fifty days later, we still aren’t sure, but it certainly has been fun. (And a lot of work!)
Fifty days must be an auspicious milestone in some culture, so today we’re celebrating.
First of all, we want to give a huge, huge thanks to our many writers. Without you, Japonica would be nothing but a blank page. Doumo arigatou gozaimasu.
And we need to give a huge, huge thanks to all our readers. Without you, there’d be no point. Doumo arigatou gozaimasu.
To our readers, we ask for 1 thing in return. Medium pays writers a small amount for each article. But writers can only get paid after they reach 100 followers.
If you don’t have a Medium account, please sign up for a FREE account. Just add your name and email. Then, click on the articles and press the “follow” button on the right side under each writer’s photo. It would mean a lot to every writer.
Creating a journal of Japanese culture in (mostly) English has some unique challenges. One is that on this anniversary, English speakers would shout in big letters how successful we’ve been. Japanese would write a small message saying thank you to honored readers taking your precious time to read our worthless little project and apologizing for not doing better.
So, without exaggeration or false modesty, what have we accomplished in 50 days? We’ve published 50 articles by 18 different writers with 14,000 views. Not a bad start. But just a start. We look forward to bringing you more great articles going forward.
Here are some of our favorite articles. If you haven’t read all of them, this is your chance to catch-up.
