EXT. CARPENTER BODY WORKS — NIGHT

Rod appears beside Rich’s car, which Ralph H. Carpenter is gazing at in astonishment.

RALPH H. CARPENTER

God help the country now. Their cars’s smarter

than the peoples that are drivin ‘em…

A faint blue light in Carpenter Body Works flashes on, followed by a brighter yellow light. You would have to be in the right place at the right time to see the sudden change from Teke Burton Drive, but you can see it easily from the concrete slab where the gang, as Mr. Kidderman would call them, parked their cars. Rod waves his hand in the direction of the Treehouse, catching the attention of Ralph H. Carpenter.

RALPH H. CARPENTER (CONT’D)

You think they’re through the worst?

ROD

Well, what’s the worst…?

Rod turns disturbingly to you, our readers.

ROD (CONT’D)

Our strange story is at a turning point,

but does a momentary happiness mark

the end of an episode, or the beginning

of something only endings can begin?
