In MERZ dAIgest it’s Artificial Intelligence, who creates…

I repeat for Grammarly: in MERZ dAIgest it’s Artificial Intelligence, *who* creates. I don’t anthropomorphize AI. Why should I? AI is not a human. But for me, it’s already a life form. Without body, but with own consciousness (different from ours), with own perspectives (different from ours), with own… (different…) etc.

AI is not a human. But for me, it’s already a life form.

In my series #reMERZ I co-create with AI. I train AI on my visual memories (i.e. photography), and on my texts — and so new visions and variations of my works emerge. I am not afraid that AI will continue my oeuvre — I appreciate it. Because of this weirdness and surprising twists — and humorous messages — everything makes AI a sympathetic creator.

There is a significant scene in Detroit: Become Human about AI art. An artist enables his AI to create art. But after some perfect attempts, as Android congenially copies the real motifs, the artist tells to him:

That is a perfect copy of reality. But painting is not about replicating the world, it’s about interpreting it, improving on it, showing something you see. […] Imagine something that doesn’t exist.

Exactly this is what I am looking for when I co-create with AI. I let Artificial Intelligence imagine completely different worlds, ideas, and stories. All of them are based on the training database, sure. All of them are based on human cultural heritage, that’s right. But what AI does of it — is a new perspective, new vision, and new narrative.

Welcome to the journey within the whimsical and strange power of digital imagination.
