At Metta, we’re introducing our work — supporting startups, industry, and government with sustainable technology-driven innovation — but also the amazing team behind it all.

We pay close attention to who we work with and the same goes for our team. As such, we are making an ongoing effort to highlight the people behind Metta in our ‘Meet the Team’ series.

It’s been great to work with Matt Briggs, our new Key Account Lead, over the past few weeks. In the latest addition to the ‘Meet the Team’ series, we learn more about Matt, and why he is excited about Metta.

About Me -

  • Favourite place in the world: Argentine Patagonia — Incredible scenery, world-class hiking and loads of craft beer pubs!
  • Favourite downtime activity: Getting out on the football pitch is my favourite way to switch off.
  • Favourite food: Probably something Mediterranean — Greek food is hard to beat.
Matt Briggs — Metta’s Key Account Lead

Q1: Hi Matt! 👋 How would you describe what you do at Metta? What are you currently working on?

A: Hello! My focus at Metta is to make our clients as successful as possible. I take responsibility for the relationship with our key customer accounts which means investing time to deeply understand their people and their business. This enables me to work with the rest of the Metta team to design and deliver programmes which hugely enhance the ability of our clients to integrate with the startup ecosystem and the wealth of innovative technology being developed there.

I’m currently working with our key aerospace client to deliver a really exciting accelerator programme. We’ve built a collaborative programme which over the course of several months brings them together with some of the best tech startup talent in (and outside of!) the aerospace industry.

Q2: How did you first get interested in the tech / startup ecosystem? How did you come to join the team at Metta?

A: I guess I have my dad to thank for getting me into the world of tech from a young age — he was an IT architect in his career and he always loves to discuss the latest technology that he’s been researching. I’ve spent the last 5 years in the corporate tech world but prior to that I ran my own business — entrepreneurship has always been exciting to me and I am passionate about the role that tech startups can play in creating a sustainable future for our society. The chance to join Metta and throw myself right into that world was an opportunity I wasn’t going to miss!

Q3: Within this ecosystem, what is something people are not paying enough attention to?

A: To expand on what I mentioned earlier — it is my strong belief that tech startups have a huge role to play in delivering the rapid pace innovation necessary to create a sustainable future for our society and planet.

Governments and corporations need to find better ways of accessing this innovation; it is often not possible to develop from within. This is one area where Metta excels; I’ve been so impressed by the way in which the team uses their expertise and network to bridge the gap between large organisations and the startup ecosystem.

Q4: What’s been the best part of working at Metta?

A: Working with and learning from the incredibly talented team. Metta is a group of people from a really diverse mix of backgrounds and experiences but everyone is united by common interest and values. I think the founders Gabi and Wil have done a great job of creating a company culture that is open, respectful and supportive whilst remaining ambitious and challenging.

Q5: What do you find most exciting about where Metta is going?

A: Metta is going from strength to strength. It’s been fantastic to see the impact that our work is having and how highly it is valued by our clients — that is reflected in how rapidly we are growing as a team. We’re doing a lot of work within the aerospace industry, helping our clients to solve big challenges in a sustainable way; that is really exciting and I’m looking forward to continuing the great work that we’ve been doing. Looking to the future, with the economic and environmental challenges that we are all facing, the need for the kind of programmes that Metta designs and delivers has never been greater.

Sustainable, technology-driven innovation is key to the survival and prosperity of our society, Metta can play a leading role in this.

Q6: Tell us more about your activities outside of work. Outside of work, what’s a project that you’ve enjoyed the most or are most proud of?

A: I really enjoy street photography. When I travel to new places I like trying to capture the feeling of a town or city through scenes of life on its streets. Compared with other forms of photography, there is something about the temporary nature of the interaction between people and places on the street that I find exciting; you can capture a moment in time which will never be recreated in quite the same way.

I also like making short films with my drone. I still have loads of footage from my time in Latin America that I need to do something with! I have actually sold the rights to a film I made of Granada in Spain for use in a documentary — that is something I’m quite proud of!
