What a month!

July came with many heartfelt stories following the month’s prompt, Saying Goodbye.” For some, the prompt served as a reflection of passed loved ones, whose memory carries on. For others, it was a chance to talk about the issues in society we could do without.

But whether socially, emotionally, economically or as a matter of self-growth — everyone had a story to tell.

At Modern Women, we value the power stories hold, and appreciate our writers submitting their truths with us every month. While we cannot showcase every writer, we can bring to the forefront some of the stories that captivated our hearts and minds.

Here are a few of our favorites from the month of July, hand-picked by your friendly editors at Modern Women.

Brenda Covarrubias’ Top Pick for June is… “Girls and ADHD: Historical Overview and Emergent Research,” by Katherine Myrestad.

The fact that girls are misdiagnosed by professionals should (unfortunately) come as no surprise to anyone — yet, time and time again, it happens. In her compelling article on the matter, Katherine Myrestad showcases how gender biases have served to ignore girls with ADHD, leading to a foundational misunderstanding of the disorder that has lasted generations. Is it time to let go of the stigma behind ADHD? Or is the problem with gender bias itself?

Nicole Dake’s top pick for this month is… Just Stop Being Poor Already, by Lost Layla. This story really reached out and tugged at my heart. It’s a story about the way the poor are treated in America, written from someone who has been there. It is a story that can really give a different perspective from what many people on this platform have experienced.

Bella Smith ⭐'s top pick for this month is... Saying Goodbye… When You’re Still In Love by Trinity Wurm. This story tells a heartfelt and relatable tale of fighting for love and a family’s survival despite facing immense challenges and emotional struggles. Trinity's commitment to her partner, her efforts to communicate, and her unwavering dedication to the relationship resonate deeply with readers like me.

ADEOLA SHEEHY-ADEKALE’s top pick for this month is… ‘It’s No Wonder Why Moms Are Using Magic Mushrooms ToDeal With Motherhood’, by June Kirri.

This is an incredibly insightful piece about the state of motherhood in the modern world. The disparities, the gender based expectations, the isolation and the frustrations that huge numbers of women experience. All this is explored as the reasons many women are turning to micro-dosing mushrooms as a way to managing their daily lives. It is a fascinating piece and a guaranteed conversation starter, just check out the comments!

Mariana Carvalho’s top pick for this month is… About Goodbye, by Lara Buonocore, where she shares examples of saying goodbyes to people that no longer fit in her life, and the challenges and self-reflection on letting things (and people) go. One of her sayings was: “Thinking about it, it’s pretty similar to saying goodbye: it’s a practice of learning to let go and flow with it.
