In 2017, I was fed up with solo freelancing and decided to partner with Maxime to found Mozza. This micro agency would enable us to work on exciting projects together and remotely. For the first two years, Mozza was a duo. We helped a few promising startups like Aircall or Heetch on product strategy & UX/UI design while traveling in Europe, the US and Asia.

At the end of 2018, we put an end to our professional network Mangrove and my cofounder started to focus on his YouTube channel project. I felt the need to involve more people in the crew and began to envision Mozza differently, as a community of experts, gathered within complementary teams, ready to work for ambitious startups all around the world.

1 year ago, Mozza became a collective made of amazing product designers coming from some of the best tech companies, and I’m proud to share with you here some of our most exciting collaborations!

From idea to app store

Most of our presentations on product strategy are mobile-focused, so we often get interest from founders working on a new app. This led to beautiful projects including :

  • MyMark, a startup based in Los Angeles that aims at reducing diseases like cancer by warning users before they happen, using at-home blood tests and an analysis mobile app cofounded by Yannick Namia.
  • Clind, an edtech application that boosts peer-to-peer learning within communities — founded by Gilles Chetelat, the previous CEO of StickyAds ($100M exit).
  • Pixy, a mobile app to remove the hassles from family life organization started by 2 incredible moms in Belgium.

For Clind and Pixy, we got involved very early in the project. Just like a product cofounder, our role was to set the product vision, help them decide which features to focus on, define the roadmap, and then design, test and improve their UX and UI.

Some slides from our product ideation decks for Clind 🤓

“As an early stage start-up, working with Mozza has given our project all the chances to succeed thanks to a high-level expertise and a smooth cooperation, as if they were part of the team.” Anne-Sophie Lecointre, CEO Pixy

MyMark hired us to redesign the UX and UI of their v1 application in order to give it an exciting, modern and warm feeling. “We need empathy to show bad news”.

”From the start, we could see that Mozza understands what it means to be a startup, at every level : flexibility, price, involvement. They will do this extra-mile, to make the app better, and they will push-back when needed when we give them wrong instructions.” Yannick Namia, Cofounder of MyMark

Helping growing startups build their product, better, faster

We love designing from scratch, but it is also very rewarding to get involved in existing products and offer a fresh perspective on their challenges.

Designing Airbnb’s new service for hosts

The company has been working on a project to make it easier for hosts to manage their listings. We helped them design some of its core engagement features. We’ll be able to tell more about it as soon as it’s launched!

“In less than 24h we were working with a designer that delivered a world-class service.” Felix Malfait, Product Lead at Airbnb

Increasing La Fourche’s conversion rate by 20% in 2 weeks

La Fourche is a French startup making healthy and organic food available at wholesale price. They have been consistently growing for the past few years and needed to revamp their website in a very short period of time to convert more visitors into customers.

We went through an audit of their experience and identified 3 drivers of growth to focus on:

  • simplifying the value proposition and user flows
  • engaging visitors with inspiring recommendations
  • bringing trust through the existing community of users

La Fourche gathers more than 4000 monthly members and this new platform increased by +20% their conversion rate.

While many apps try to increase user time spent on their platform, our goal was to make it possible for the customers to spend as less time as possible on the website to order what they needed. After 6 months, we came with great results as the average time to shop dropped by 30%.

Mozza’s motto is “growth by design”. We not only see product design as a way to provide a clear and beautiful experience but also consider it as the best way to increase user engagement. We worked on a bunch of other projects to increase activation and retention rates.

For instance, the food delivery startup Frichti that raised $48M hired us to help them tackle this a challenge: how can we turn more signups into customers on day 1?

“The Mozza team knew how to understand our issues very quickly and propose ambitious, consumer centric, disruptive and pragmatic solutions.” Quentin Vacher, CEO at Frichti

Designing Ditto Bank’s landing page

This fintech company offers banking services for travelers. We challenged their existing website, produced their content strategy and designed the UX & UI of this new landing page.

Managing Voodoo’s usability tests

Voodoo is revolutionizing the mobile gaming industry. They became the second company worldwide with the most downloads on the App Store per day raised an estimated $200 million in 2018.

All over the year, we took in charge the usability testing process for some of their most innovative games 👾

“Extremely efficient team with a true focus on their customers’ needs. A real pleasure to work with such professionals.” Loic Moisan, Customer Success Manager at Voodoo

Becoming a collective

The Mozza galaxy of talents

What I’m the proudest of in 2019 is having gathered such a group of talents. These people have worked at some of the best startups out there — Payfit, Blablacar, Qonto, Molotov, Algolia, Aircall, Paypal… — or have founded apps with 10M+ downloads.

For each project, our members assembled within a team that understands the client’s industry and works efficiently to deliver beautiful and effective design. Combining their expertise in product strategy, user research, UX and UI makes it possible to achieve within a few months what could have taken years to young startups.

How do we attract these talents? By offering working conditions that can’t be found anywhere else.

  1. Freedom: our members are freelancers and can work from wherever they feel best, whenever they want, on the projects they have chosen.
  2. Community: they work in teams, within an inspiring collective, to keep learning from each other and growing personally.
  3. Security: as our members focus on doing what they love, a dedicated team takes care of finding exciting missions and makes sure everyone gets paid well & on time.

At the end of February, all our members will be gathered in this house in South of France for La Trattoria, a 1-week hackathon to build products that solve issues we care the most about 🚀

I‘m now building the organization I’d have loved to join after leaving Molotov 4 years ago, and my experience with Mangrove is helping a lot. The good news is that I’m passionate about our main challenge: increasing the quality of life of our members while growing this beautiful ecosystem.

I’m gonna focus on 3 things this year:

  • Increasing diversity in the community, especially genderwise. This hasn’t been easy last year; if you can help, please let me know :)
  • Starting hubs with dedicated teams on specific verticals that we are particularly interested in, like branding & user research.
  • Setting up a solid sales infrastructure with Ary to keep interesting missions flowing in, from all around the world.

This is the very beginning of our crew, and there are still lots of things to be done. Of course, I’d love to hear your thoughts on all this.

And if you want to hire us, or to join us as a member, simply write to hello@mozza.io :)

Thank you! 🙏
