As an Open Education Resource Project (OER), this publication is inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Declaration of Human Rights and undertaken through the arts and humanities. The writers are completing coursework at Chandler-Gilbert and Mesa Community Colleges from various fields of study. Here they are asked to commit to interdisciplinary thinking and critical research, developing their voices as writers and visual creatives, along with skills for project management. Many articles contain a visual component created by the author — an infographic, comic, collage, fashion design, or video— intended to communicate the essence of their message. The project assignments occur over a semester, and have been implemented in Hip Hop Music Culture (MHL204), Survey of American Music (MHL155), and Rock Music & Culture (MHL153). Additionally, a colleague has implemented some of the project in First Year Composition (ENG101).
