My Jerusalem Heroes
I’m not one of those people who can change the world. But I can tell you about ordinary people doing extraordinary things, from a most unlikely place  — Jerusalem, Israel
Note from the editor

Eight years ago, I did the craziest thing. I left all that I knew behind and moved to Jerusalem. This place completes me spiritually and emotionally. But like every homecoming, the excitement wears off, the reality sinks in and you realize that the cracks in the ceiling have widened, the broken tiles make the floor unstable and sometimes tensions flare up in the family. You live with the fissures, the leaks, the cracks and the fights because its home — not completely broken but far from perfect. Nearly a million people call Jerusalem home and we know all about the conflict and the complexities, some make headlines and others don’t. But you know what really doesn’t make headlines? Jerusalem’s unsung heroes, “do-gooders” who see a problem they want to fix and set their mind to do it. I’m in awe of them and rather than lecture about problems that get enough ink, I’d rather highlight what hides in the shadows. I wish I was one of those brilliant people with an idea that could change the world. I’m not. Not even close. So instead, I’ll tell you about them from one of the world’s most unlikely places.
