When we released the redesigned MEW5 interface seven months ago, we realized that our users may need time to adjust to the new flow — so we kept the previous interface around at vintage.myetherwallet.com.

Since then, we’ve been making multiple updates to MEW5 and MEW5.1 : Exit to Fiat with Bity, scheduled transactions, ENS manager, MakerDAO’s CDP protocol, and NFT manager, to name a few. We have worked hard to bring dapp, DeFi, and NFT interaction right into the wallet, and we would love for all users to take advantage of these features.

While both Vintage MEW and MEW5 were available to users, we took the time to understand what our community found most useful, essential, and exciting in both versions. Two weeks after releasing the beta on January 10, we asked users to participate in a survey about the new interface. We read through every one of the 210 filled surveys to find that most people thought that MEW5 was more functional and intuitive, but also took note of the specific challenges that some users were experiencing.

Two weeks after the official MEW5 release, we took to Twitter again to ask what was the one thing users missed most from Vintage MEW. Many of the features mentioned in the longer survey and the later Twitter poll have since been incorporated into MEW5.

Now, after months of researching, comparing, updating, and improving, we are finally ready to let go of Vintage MEW and focus on our long-term vision. We would like to dedicate our developer resources to building new functionality and maintaining the highest security standards on the current interface and future innovations, rather than monitoring outdated Vintage MEW packages for potential security issues that can put users at risk.

We are honored to have the support of a community that’s been on the frontlines of cryptocurrency adoption as the earliest users and developers of the Ethereum blockchain. We have tremendous respect for the needs and preferences of this community, which is why we are making sure that all the tools that were available on the older MEW will continue to be around on newer versions. Of course, Vintage MEW can also be downloaded from Github for offline use.

In the next few weeks, we will be giving the highest priority to fixing any issues that users encounter on the current interface as compared to Vintage. To help us in this endeavor, please do try MEW5 and report any concerns! Otherwise, we’ll have a harder time discovering all the edge cases where something that works on Vintage MEW may not work the same way on MEW5.

It has taken a great deal of thought, and a substantial period of time, for us to arrive at this decision. Vintage MEW will be taken offline after October 20, 2019. With your support, we are looking forward to making MEW5 your favorite MEW yet!

Sincerely,

Team MEW
