Each week we will highlight the interactive digital experience that has impressed us the most. Made by the advertiser or by an agency, in France or elsewhere, this section wants to show that the web can be cool again.

After focusing on Sobieski, Wed’ze, Dell Gaming and Apple, today we will focus on the very cool landing page for the new Mercedez-Benz EQC !

You could almost feel the wind in your hair from the view, couldn’t you?

The Brand:

Benz Patent Motorwagen, known as the first petrol-powered car

Created in 1926 in Stuttgart, Mercedes-Benz has always been a pioneer. Born from the merge of Benz & Cie and Daimler (DMG), the first Mercedes was actually a car model produced by DMG in 1901, named after the daughter of the entrepreneur at the origin of this model. The success was fast, especially with the richest families of the time in both Europe and the New World.

Two versions of the logo were registered by Daimler at the beginning of the 20th century, a 4-pointed stars and a 3-pointed stars; of course, only the latter was actually used. It was a symbol of the aim of universality of motorized vehicle both on land, air and sea.

Mercedez-Benz produce now in more than 30 different countries on all the continents and sold just a bit less than 2,5M cars in 2017. If the volume market share is on a decreasing trend (with around 5% in Europe according to Statista), the value market share comfort them in their leading position on the premium segment.

This leading position has been driven by both durability and innovation, such as the honeycomb radiator, four wheels brake, ESP brake assist etc. They just made a new step by announcing at the Mondial de Paris its first 100% electric SUV, the Mercedes-Benz EQC

The website:

For this new car, Mercedes-Benz decided to create a real digital experience.

The website itself is a quite long page, with almost 10 different tables, including 2 stunning but similar 3D scenes. Arriving on the website, you are directly in front of a simple but immersive scene.

The ground is a very basic concrete texture that could look like pavements. The sky is a nice city that could be a 180° panorama on a spheric asset. In the middle, a 3D model of the car is quite realistic, without being photorealistic, which is better for the overall performance of the website. Last but not least, a light asset is used outside of the scene on the left to give a realistic reflection on the car and a nice shade. Simple but effective, all of those could have been made with the Naker editor.

Then, you have to scroll down to discover all the different tables that present the different key points with different pictures and a special pointer to zoom in. The text is also animated with some cool moves. The last scene is a come back to a similar scene but this time the camera is moving with the scroll that gives a very impressive immersive effect, especially since the scene is textfree. Here again, you can trigger animation on scroll on our platform!

The Agency:

  • Antoni is the European lead agency for the car division of Mercedes-Benz, based in Berlin and Stuttgart

We liked this experience because it’s a simple but effective use of 3D scenes to promote an innovative product. It’s a good balance between immersion and performance and finally it’s responsive!
