Taka moved from New York City to Oslo back in 2017 and has been at Neonomics ever since. Over the last three years, Taka has gone from a full-stack developer to a senior software developer, and is currently Team Lead.
So, let’s grab a coffee, and get to know Taka and his journey a little bit better!
Hi Taka! So, could you tell us a little about yourself?
I started my career as a full-stack developer in New York City, but also with a background in aviation as a pilot and aviation administration. I have an incessant fascination towards our progress as a global society to explore and discover our cosmos. Putting these endeavors on hiatus, I’ve cultivated a home and family both in Neonomics and from my father’s side here in Norway. I am aspiring to learn more about my father’s roots and in parallel, grow with my newfound family in Neonomics.
What exactly is it that you do at Neonomics? and how long have you been here?
I started at Fintech Innovation three years ago as a full-stack developer working on another project but found myself working with the Neonomics project shortly after joining. In a startup, it is hard to pinpoint your roles and responsibilities as you usually wear many hats. Neonomics offers great opportunities for those who have ambitions to grow and take opportunities as they come. As of today, I am currently working as the team lead for one of the teams here at Neonomics and have the pleasure of working with such an incredible team!
We have to ask! What is that you like about working at Neonomics?
I have essentially been at Neonomics since its foundation, and it has grown a lot over time. The dynamics and culture have evolved, but its diversity is something that I found has stuck throughout. We have such a multinational team that reminds me of where I grew up and lived in New York prior to moving here. Our diversity is quite refreshing especially in such a homogeneous culture. The crew is a humble bunch, and we look out for each other in rough times. When I first moved to Norway, I have had a lot of help from those who were in the organization at the time. As an international in a new country, I felt I was taken care of, and people have gone out of their way not because it was their job but because they were genuinely kind and helpful, and I still feel this is the case today!
Interesting! How did you get into Fintech?
As mentioned, I initially started and completed my education in the aviation industry. I had made a personal pivot towards software development as I saw that as a more practical future for myself. When you work in New York City, finance and more specifically fintechs are around every corner. It’s hard to escape it. That’s not to say that I am not fascinated by it, but I found it a natural transition for me. Neonomics and Fintech Innovation have very ambitious goals which had me gravitate towards these projects. The things we are working on and building are part of an awakening tech industry, being fintech companies, that have only seen incremental progress. The world of finance throughout Europe are seeing drastic and revolutionary changes on all fronts. It amazes me to see countries with different financial platforms, regulations, and philosophies organize and unify towards a common goal, which brings all the nations in the European Union together rather than apart. To see and be a part of a societal movement as such is fantastic to experience.
Lastly, how would you describe Neonomics in 3 words?
Exciting, ambitious, and gregarious!
