Cardio vs Strength vs Weights? I Found the Best Way to Choose

I’ll let you in on a secret — it doesn’t matter!

What am I doing? One day I’m saying I lost weight doing keto, the next day I’m saying I failed at weight loss and now I’m claiming to be a workout guru?

Trust me, I’m not. This is by no means scientific in any way. I couldn’t even manage to maintain the weight I lost, but the few pounds I did lose after miserably failing at keto were by working out.

And that is what I’m going to share with you today. Just a harmless, personal experience that you may or not follow. That is totally up to you. Heck, even reading any further than this is totally up to you as well.

But I would love it if you stuck around; genuine, and good listeners like you are a rare breed.

So, which one do I vote for, cardio, weight training, or strength training?

None of them!

Wait, wait, don’t leave. I can explain. But first I need to give a little background.

I Started with Walking

All I did was walk whenever I could. Reading a book, researching for my writing, listening to music, all of this happened while walking.

I managed to continue this for a whole, complete, full-fledged week. Not even a month! And I have a reason for that.

It. Was. Boring.

I found no joy in walking 100,000 miles or whatever the requirement is these days. It made me tired and drained me of all my energy, which in turn made me grumpy.

Makes sense that I left it, right? So, what did I do then? How did I manage to lose those few pounds I’m so defiantly boasting about?

I Turned to YouTube for Help

Who doesn’t? It’s full of resources.

So full of resources that I felt like I was losing weight just by trying to decide what to follow!

After hunting like a wolf, or should I say she-wolf, I stumbled upon the sweetheart Chloe Ting. Her workout videos, aesthetics, and the way she supports and encourages her followers were enough to get me drooling.

But drooling wasn’t enough, right Chloe? You just had to make me torture myself with all those crunches, jumping jacks, bunny hops, and up-and-down planks. God, I hate those up-and-down planks.

I was able to keep body weight training up for about 3 months. Mind you, I wasn’t extremely regular even during this time.

Then I Discovered Zumba!

Who knew you could dance in the name of workout? I didn’t.

It was too good to be true. I could dance to my favorite songs and lose weight? Count me in!

As they say, give credit where credit is due. And the credit for getting me into Zumba goes to the darling Dhruvi Shah. Being a Bollywood Phanatic, I was instantly hooked.

I also discovered other YouTubers that posted Zumba. My favorites list has three at the moment:

  • Dhruvi Shah Dance
  • Akshay Jain
  • Sabah Kadri

Do let me know if you want me to compare energy levels and stuff, or if you simply want to hear my experience with them individually. I would be happy to share.

So, with that said, how much time do you guess I stuck with Zumba?

If you thought,

Romi, you’re still doing it.

Congratulations, you are correct. You are officially added to the list of people I adore.

And if you didn’t think that you’re still added to that list because *teary-eyed* you didn’t run away and stuck with me till this point.

Why did I chatter about all that anyway? To explain why I didn’t vote for any of the things in the title.

You see, this experience made me realize that it’s not about the workout type. It’s about your consistency!

If you’re not able to consistently keep up the workout, it’s of no use no matter how much it’s backed by science and research.

Now the question is: how can you be consistent? By choosing the workout type you genuinely enjoy. The one that makes you feel excited before doing it and releases endorphins after.

I found out that when I was working out just for the sake of it and just because I had to, I was not able to commit. But when I found the thing I enjoyed, I don’t want to miss a single day now.

So, which one do you vote for?
