On May 14, 2020, approximately 5:14 p.m., Newport News police encountered a stolen vehicle in North Precinct. An officer attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the driver did not comply.

Update: Homicide Investigation

(May 20, 2020, 12:45 p.m.) The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Davon Mathews, of the 700 block of 34th Street.

No charges have been filed in connection with this incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.
