Long gone is the last meetup of 2017 of the Porto JavaScript Community, ā€œbuttā€ we havenā€™t been idle (pun intended).

Weā€™ve been burning those ill-gotten Xmas and NYE calories, preparing an amazing 2018 for our community. šŸ™Œ

Read on if youā€™re curiousā€¦

But first, letā€™s actually wrap up meetup #5!

Only have 1 minute to spare? Watch the aftermovie šŸ˜Ž

I sh*t you not, Youtube picked my face for the cover, so I guess I got that going for me, which is nice šŸ¤”

The turnout was great. As usual, well over 100 JavaScripters showed up. But the most surprising thing was the dinner, with a total of 55 people joining in! šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

Looks like the dinners are really picking up and people are taking the chance to exchange ideas and knowledge.

Clearly happy about releasing a fresh new module on NPM.
First ever After-After-Party at OPO.js meetup #5

The After-After-Party šŸ»

This was a first. Like a cpu intensive sync cycle, hogging the event loop, the resistance refused to throw in the towel and go away, and instead kept on partying even after dinner, well into the night, wellā€¦ well until the owner kicked us out. šŸ™ƒ

This was a fun meetup, focused on community. You keep finding familiar faces, which means people are coming back for more ā€” Marco Oliveira, OPO.network founder

The talks šŸ—£

On to the nitty-gritty part, the talks.

JoĆ£o Granado talked about ā€œThe Right Amount of Sugarā€, in trying to find the right balance between power and order. In the words of Uncle Ben, ā€œWith great power comes great responsibilityā€. Or instead you could just take Granadoā€™s words.

Is it me, or does Granado look disturbingly satisfied with his words? šŸ˜†

JoĆ£o Fonseca told us a story, ā€œFrom Bitcoin to Smart Contractsā€, how the crypto currencies evolved from Bitcoin, to altcoin forks, to Ethereum, a truly programmable currency with Solidity, which will be very familiar to JS developers, to BAT and the Brave browser. If youā€™re looking to discover the cryptocurrency history and basics for developers, this is a great way to dive in and get a wide view of the field! šŸ‘

For 2018, weā€™ve got great plans.

Weā€™re locking the full calendar for the year, andā€¦

OPO.js meetup #6 is right around the corner šŸ¤˜
Be on the look out for the announcement:
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Medium.

Weā€™ll soon be organising our first OPO.design meetup and, later this year, you can expect other developments, including more OPO.network groups. Weā€™ll be sharing more information on this meanwhile.

Thatā€™s it for now! Since weā€™ve got nothing else to say, weā€™ll just let JosĆ©, one of our attendees, say it for us:

Great having you, JosĆ©! šŸ˜„ See you on the next meetup!

Need to get in touch? Reach out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Medium, or directly through js@opo.network.
