Day 6: The Wonderful Counsellor
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Jeremiah 1:12 The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”
Isaiah 55:10–11 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
Mark 16:20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
Hebrews 2:4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
1 Corinthians 4:20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.
We can go on and on from the New and Old Testaments to see the ministry of the Wonderful Counsellor in action. God is not all about the talk alone. As a matter of fact, every time He spoke something more happened. His type of Gospel is not the intellectual one that tickles our intelligence. The gospel causes a change wherever is being preached. God’s counsel is always accompanied by a wonder.
Right from the beginning, we see that whenever God spoke, something happens. God said let there be light and there was light. God said let the waters be separated and so the firmaments were formed. He gathered the waters to form the sea and land all by His word. The sun, the moon and the stars came by the word of His mouth. All living things all came as a result of the wonder in His counsel.
So next time you get your prayer answered, don’t just jump up and run around. Stay around for the Lord to ask who touched me, and let him give you counsel for a much eternally relevant change. Next time you get an insight into the scriptures or a revelation jumps at you. Don’t rush out to share it. You might want to spend the time to pray that the wonders in His counsel be also made manifest in your life.
It is my prayer that we experience and express the Wonderful Counsellor. That our faith will not be in words only but in power and the demonstration of the Holy Spirit.
