Lego Build 73 — Commando

A “quick and dirty” one today. The Commando has been one of the first ‘Mechs I did in real Lego years ago. It took me this long to make a build of it because there are shortcuts that I sometimes use and Stud.io doesn’t allow me to emulate. However, after some attempts I managed to do something similar to the original one I made.

A staple of the Lyran Commonwealth, the Commando is a quintessential light ‘mech. Quite mobile, in most models it comes equipped with a suite of missile launchers that give it the ability to literally punch above its size.

The Commando is also among the first light ‘Mechs ever made, only surpassed in the scout role when the likes of the Wasp or the Locust came into being. However, its general qualities allowed it to remain in service as a raider or a light fire support unit to exploit damage done by larger machines.

When I first made my Lyran Lego team years ago, I had a couple Commandos alongside a Zeus and an Hatchetman (added the Warhammer, the King Crab and the Galleon at a later date). I really liked those.

As you can see, the shoulders are different in the real one compared to my build. This is because the software I use doesn’t allow me to place the part I used for the upper arm in that fashion, so I had to turn it around and use less comon parts to fill the hole it created.

If you want to emulate what I did originally, just turn the part around and it should fit rather well. Then use a round 1x1 plate to fill the hole. I do prefer it that way.

As always, let me know your thoughts.
