Biweekly update on Cosmos ecosystem vol. 45, 24th March — 7th April
Cosmonauts, IBC is here! The passing of Proposal 41 on the Cosmos Hub marks a momentous milestone in the evolution of the Cosmos ecosystem and the vision to realize the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol as the foundation for interoperability between sovereign blockchains. On March 29th the Cosmos Hub unlocked IBC transfers and opened up its port to the Interchain!
Governance proposal #44 now is in the voting period: Tharsis is requesting 100,000 ATOMs from the Cosmos Hub community pool to fund, develop and advance the Ethermint project and launch an Ethermint Chain.
Last week, Peng Zhong, CEO at Tendermint, was joining the 5th European Blockchain Convention. The Tendermint team announced Tendermint Ventures, a $20M fund through which they will invest in valuable projects building with Cosmos and driving the expansion of the Cosmos ecosystem. Moreover, the team will be awarding hard working validators who have been contributing to Cosmos in the form of open source software, community building, infrastructure or others. If you are one of them, apply for a delegation from Tendermint until April 15th.
As for the Cosmos ecosystem news: The next edition of the Interchain Foundation’s biweekly update was published. Althea announced the completion and test of the first transaction of a Cosmos based token (ALTG) to test ethereum (Goerli) using the second iteration of Althea Gravity, the Cosmos <> Ethereum bridge. The Crypto.org Chain mainnet launched on 25 March 2021. Moreover, Crypto.com and Visa successfully conducted the first settlement of transactions using USDC. Sentinel has officially minted its mainnet genesis block on Cosmos SDK. Upon swapping and mainnet trading, the ticker for Sentinel changes from SENT to DVPN. BitSong mainnet launched on March 26th. Good news is, the first BitSong Web Wallet is now online. The Persistence mainnet went live on March 30th. Decentraland, the biggest virtual world in the metaverse and Aave, the leading liquidity and lending protocol, are now scaling with Polygon. SEFI , native governance token for Secret DeFi and SecretSwap , has been deployed to mainnet. On March 31, IRISnet was successfully and swiftly upgraded to mainnet 1.1. Red Bull Racing Honda — the leading Formula 1 team selects Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as official cloud platform with initial projects focused on car performance, machine learning, and analytics. Bluzelle and Mintable announced an NFT Partnership. The Kadena team deployed their Chain Relay into testnet. Terra LUNA is now officially live on Ethereum as renLUNA. Kash, a decentralized, mobile banking app sourced from Terra’s DeFi ecosystem is now live. The Idena team released a bridge to convert iDNA to wrapped iDNA on Binance Smart Chain The Injective team announced the public release of Equinox Staking. Kava 5 is proposed to upgrade on April 8th. Also, Binance has added KAVA to the exclusive list of cross-margin assets on Binance.com. One of the most highly anticipated events in the e-Money community is the Ethereum Bridge is coming. April 15th is the target genesis date and Regen mainnet launch. THORChain launches on April 13th. Agoric beta goes live today. And more!

Token Transfers for the Interchain
Token transfers are enabled for IBC connected blockchains in Cosmos — marking a critical step in the evolution of the Interchain
The passing of Proposal 41 on the Cosmos Hub marks a momentous milestone in the evolution of the Cosmos ecosystem and the vision to realize the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol as the foundation for interoperability between sovereign blockchains. Over 1500 Cosmos validators and delegators signalled their support for fungible token transfers to go live on IBC. As of March 29th, token transfers are enabled for IBC connected blockchains as a parameter change on the Cosmos Hub, which includes access to the ATOM token for blockchains connected over IBC.

The team is investing $20m in the next wave of critical infrastructure for the Cosmos ecosystem
The Tendermint team is announcing Tendermint Ventures, a $20m fund through which they will invest in valuable projects building with Cosmos and driving the expansion of the Cosmos ecosystem. The Cosmos ecosystem is made up of 200+ blockchains with a shared market cap of $60 billion. Tendermint Ventures will plant the seeds for the next 200 application-specific blockchains to join Cosmos’ decentralized network of independent, scalable, and interoperable chains.
Tendermint Ventures has been months in the making. The success of the Stargate upgrade delivered the Cosmos Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol, enabling assets and data to flow freely across any blockchain within Cosmos. This milestone unlocked the next phase of growth potential for our community, and Tendermint Ventures will invest in the projects that will enable Cosmos to expand even further.
Tendermint Ventures will be the largest investment vehicle in the Cosmos ecosystem. They will invest in companies of various sizes and maturity, up and down the Cosmos tech stack. The main criteria is technology that enables interchain interoperability. Beyond capital, they will provide advisory, community, and growth resources to help bring projects to market.
The initial focus areas include:
- Staking derivatives and decentralized derivatives (futures, options)
- Decentralized lending and borrowing
- Decentralized stablecoins
- Oracles
- Decentralized insurance

Tendermint roadmap for the next months
Tendermint Core 1.0’s chief concern is stability. It must be stable enough that people can (continue) to build production software on it confidently. This requires an increased level of clarity and rigidity around all the interfaces exposed by Tendermint Core. It also requires us to build confidence in Tendermint Core’s performance and correctness through investments in performance-oriented refactors and increased, more sophisticated testing.
This post outlines the things the team considers necessary for a 1.0 release.
The team thinks of new features and improvements as a kind of Maslow’s hierarchy combined with a food pyramid, with the most substantial and most boring goals at the bottom, and the shinier and smaller changes at the top.
