Biweekly update on the Cosmos ecosystem vol. 63, 24th January — 7th February

TL;DR

Greetings, Space Cowboys and Astronaut Girls! Welcome to our fresh issue of ‘Cosmos biweekly’! As usual we have a bunch of great news for you today!

Testnets are vital to success and Cosmos chains run them before mainnet launch to try new features, stress-test their networks & ensure stable validator setups. Check out some of the most exciting ones coming up in H1 2022 in a freshly-published article in the Cosmos blog.

Astronauts, please welcome the 32nd IBCGang family member Gravity bridge! ATOM, and any other asset in the Cosmos ecosystem, will be able to trade on Uniswap and other Ethereum AMMs, and interact with Ethereum DeFi like any ERC20 token.

The great news is, the first overview of the Interchain Security, Cosmos-specific category of Shared Security that uses IBC — the Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol, by Informal Systems is here!

As for the Cosmos ecosystem news: Datachain, with the cooperation of NTT DATA, successfully demonstrated that DVP settlement between digital currency on Ethereum and digital assets on Hyperledger Fabric using Cosmos IBC is possible. Injective released Bridge V2. Injective Bridge V2 brings superior user experience alongside vastly lower fees for all Ethereum and Cosmos users. The biggest technological update of BSC is here. Also, the latest version of Binance Smart Chain, release v1.1.8 is out. To fit the changing needs in the fast-growing Cosmos & to optimize UX, IRISnet will support the IRIS Hub <> Binance Chain cross-chain txs mainly thru IBC & TIBC, and will gradually phase out the gateway services. Akash Testnet 3 is coming. Band Oracle now live on Oasis Network mainnet. Oasis Emerald ParaTime sees rapid growth in less than 3 months. Polygon has reached a new adoption milestone with more than 7,000 decentralized applications running on the network. The upcoming Kava 10 upgrade will mark the start of a bright future for the network, with limitless potential. The team introduced the Kava Network, a lightning-fast Layer-1 blockchain featuring a unique co-chain architecture that combines the speed and interoperability of the Cosmos SDK with the flexibility and developer support of the EVM. Crypto.com and Adelaide Crows announce multi-year partnership. Next generation P2E gaming platform The Three Kingdoms enters strategic collaboration with e-Money. SVP Worldwide taps Oracle Retail solutions to give shoppers and associates a high-value shopping experience. The Terra team announced the formation of the Luna Foundation Guard (LFG) — a non-profit organization established in the Republic of Singapore dedicated to supporting the advancement of open-source technology, facilitating the growth of the Terra ecosystem, and improving the sustainability and stability of Terra’s algorithmic stablecoins. Secret Network launches Secret Py, a simple python library for building software that can interact with the Secret blockchain. Agoric CEO Dean Tribble featured on Epicenter podcast. The new issue of the Idena Chronicles is out. Persistence monthly newsletter was published. And much more!

That’s a wrap! The future is multichained and IBC is the key!

Ecosystem updates

Akash Network:

Althea Network:

  • If you participated in the 2019 Republic airdrop, the deadline to claim is just around the corner on February 15th.

Agoric:

  • Validator Delegation Program: The Agoric network is a Proof-of-Stake chain using the Cosmos-SDK and the Tendermint consensus algorithm. Agoric relies on a community of validators to operate the network and staking in order to secure consensus. Validators commit new blocks, maintain reasonable uptime, and participate in governance. Delegating tokens to the validator community is essential to ensure that BLD, Agoric’s native staking token, is well-distributed among high-quality validators in order to support a diverse, secure, decentralized network. To accomplish this, the Agoric Operating Company (OpCo) has created the Validator Delegation Program to select a cohort of validators using selection criteria, program requirements, and a questionnaire.

Binance (BSC):

  • Binance Smart Chain Release v1.1.8: The latest version of Binance Smart Chain, release v1.1.8 is out. The validators and full node operators are encouraged to upgrade their software to version v1.1.8 to improve their performance.
  • Introducing BSC NFT Metadata Standards: The BSC developer community collaborated with a few marketplaces including Binance NFT, Galler, Bazaar, and NFTrade to set the unified NFT Metadata Standards for the BSC ecosystem.
  • BSC 2022: Build N’ Build: The biggest technological update of BSC is here! BSC 2022 will introduce new functionality with side chains and partition chains to improve the scalability and performance of the network.

  • Institutional Staking: Copper Integrates INJ: Institutional crypto custody provider Copper has integrated the Injective mainnet this month, unlocking a diverse array of new opportunities for INJ staking.

IRIS Network:

  • Notice | The IRIS Hub <> Binance Chain Gateway Cross-chain Services Will Be Gradually Phased Out from March 1st, 2022: IRISnet will be celebrating its third anniversary soon on March 1st, 2022. In the past three years, IRISnet has been upholding its initial vision to build a faithful bridge between blockchains and traditional businesses, and has contributed many innovative technologies to the open-source technology community, as well as products and services to the Cosmos ecosystem. In addition, as a long-term technical contributor to Cosmos, IRISnet has participated in and witnessed the explosive growth of the Cosmos cross-chain ecosystem, and the increasingly expanded adoptions of IBC and TIBC protocol. As part of the iteration plan, and also in order to improve the user experience, IRISnet will support cross-chain services between homogeneous and heterogeneous chains through IBC/TIBC protocol, instead of gateways, in the future. Correspondingly, the IRIS Hub <> Binance Chain gateway-based cross-chain services will be gradually phased out from March 1st, 2022. During this period, functions based on IRIS Hub gateway services in Rainbow and other wallets will also go offline. Please pay attention to notifications in these apps, and make sure to take any necessary actions in time to avoid unnecessary loss or trouble.
