Greetings, Space Cowboys and Astronaut Girls! Welcome to our fresh issue of ‘Cosmos biweekly’! As usual, we have a bunch of great news for you today!
A new milestone for Cosmos is here! The Cosmos Hub v7-Theta upgrade is coming this April. As per the Cosmos Hub roadmap, this release includes Cosmos SDK v0.45.1, the exciting new Interchain Account Module, an upgraded Gravity DEX, IBC v3.0.0, and many performance improvements. The team is running a public testnet where participating validators can test out their processes for upgrading to the v7-Theta release candidate. The upgrade process on the public testnet simulates the expected process on mainnet, starting with the submission of a software upgrade proposal with a specified upgrade binary and block height, followed by a governance vote to approve the proposed upgrade plan.
The modular design of the Cosmos SDK is one of its most powerful features. With the new blog post series, the team starts a journey to learn what makes the SDK so special & why we should all be excited about it. On the first post: Authz & Fee Grant. Read more details in the blog!
As for the other Cosmos ecosystem news: Osmosis and Juno Network are now powered by Akash. The Kava DAO has voted to allocate $750M to on-chain developer incentives, committing majority ownership of the network to the BUIDLers. Also, Connext Network partnered with Kava. Band Protocol continues to expand the supply of data on its platform which reinforces the data integrity. To take advantage of the increasing redundancy of data sources, the team proposed BCIP-7 which allows a request to incorporate more data sources. Injective is collaborating with Axelar to bring new EVM blockchains into the Injective ecosystem. Terra Community Spend Proposal 323 to provide additional UST liquidity for ZigZag Exchange has now passed. The latest SCRT Labs update covers four major recent scaling improvements and upcoming initiatives designed to dramatically improve the experience for users and validators on Secret. Adobe’s Behance, its creative social media platform, is adding support for NFTs minted on Polygon. Oracle Cloud infrastructure launches new services and capabilities focused on giving customers even more flexibility. BNB Chain Revelation Hackathon co-hosted by DoraHacks just started. Nord Finance explores e-Money’s suite of stablecoins. IRIS Hub 1.3 Upgrade Proposal submitted. Agoric is now Available on Keplr mobile. Crypto.com now offers ApeCoin, the official token for The Bored Ape Yacht Club. The new issue of the Idena Chronicles is out. Oasis is ready for DeFI with instant finality, low gas fees, high throughput and privacy protection. Persistence is continuing to push forward based on its targets & goals, advancing closer toward realizing the ultimate vision of becoming the liquid staking hub of the PoS industry. Secret Powers: What Are the Authz and Fee Grant Modules?
The modular design of the Cosmos SDK is one of its most powerful features. As the SDK upgrades and improves, exciting new features are introduced to the Cosmos stack as modules, similar to how the International Space Station was improved with amazing functionality over time. Blockchains in the Cosmos ecosystem and their end users are excited to adopt new upgrades to the SDK, but at times aren’t fully aware of the huge benefits some of these modules can provide.
The team highlights two highly powerful modules that were part of the v0.43 release last year: Authz & Fee Grant:
- Short for Authorization, Authz allows you to authorize an address to perform a specific action on your behalf.
- The Fee Grant module can be seen as a companion to Authz. This module enables users to grant other people an allowance to be used to pay for gas fees, without actually transferring any tokens to the other address. The beauty here lies in the fact that the funds remain in control of the user who created the allowance.
