PatternFly 2023 recap
New year, new PatternFly: reflections and resolutions.
2023, Year of the Rabbit, was chock-full of major events. ChatGPT celebrated its first birthday. The Titan submersible incident held the entire world on the edge of their seats. India surpassed China in population. Jeremy Renner was crushed by a snow plow (yes, he’s okay).
…And PatternFly underwent some major changes. This time last year, PatternFly looked quite a bit different.
Then:
Now:
Sleek, right? But PatternFly hasn’t just grown visually — 2023 brought flyers tons of new functionality. Here’s a recap of the year’s worth of changes that made PatternFly’s glow-up possible.
2023 updates
- A final update to PatternFly 4: We made our final planned release of PatternFly 4, which included some new features, new React documentation for 4 components, and some ‘spring cleaning’.
- PatternFly’s major release: Everything you need to know: In June, PatternFly 5 went live. Highlights included component updates, component refactoring, and the addition of the dark theme.
- Delivering the latest and greatest: While not an ‘update’ exactly, we shared a closer look into PatternFly’s release process.
- Introducing the new PatternFly logo: It’s just like it sounds — the iconic pattern fly got a bit of a facelift. Dedicated entomologists can spot its wings fluttering — and readers can learn more about the design process that went into the new logo!
- PatternFly 5 component changes: We shared a deep-dive into components that were updated or refactored for V5.
- Right-to-left language support in PatternFly: This update added RTL, which makes PatternFly and PatternFly components available to people using and hosting languages like Arabic and Hebrew.
- Introducing component groups: Last but not least, we added the component groups extension to offer even more flexible UI-building resources.
Coming in 2024
Here are some of our resolutions for the Year of the Dragon (including making your flying experience even better, of course):
- Optimized dark theme
- Additional demos for existing components
- Updated design guidelines
- PatternFly 6, which will include even more major improvements.
