Teddy Roosevelt is a celebrated president in American history. The Republican Party, as well as Progressives, claim TR as one of their own. President Roosevelt was indeed a Republican President, just as much as he championed the progressive ideology of the day. However, while Roosevelt never swayed away from his progressive dogma, he did sway away from the Republican Party. After leaving the presidential office, Teddy Roosevelt founded a third-party political coalition. Roosevelt’s political faction earned itself the nickname of the “Bull Moose Party.” The history of the TR’s Bull Moose Party is an interesting one indeed.

The Origin of the Bull Moose Party

Theodore Roosevelt became the youngest U.S. President in history as he was sworn into office on September 14, 1901, following President McKinley’s assassination. At just 42 years and 322 days, Teddy Roosevelt became the 26th U.S. President. Roosevelt was a Republican President. However, he was also a progressive thinker whose ideas often dissatisfied his own party.
