Rapid Resume Review: Product Leader using an AI Bot Resume
Today’s Rapid Resume Review is a unique one, as our Product Practice Lead, Heidi Ram, explores Dan Rinzel’s resume which was created using a LinkedIn feature that auto-generates resumes.
We’re excited about Dan because his career path started as a Software Engineer, then progressed to Interaction Designer before moving into product management and product leadership roles.
Product management professionals are not professional resume writers, so it’s not surprising that many professionals like Dan rely on digital products to help them produce a resume fast! We can’t fault anyone for expecting a great resume when the platform you use to create it is a platform like Linkedin. Our Toronto search firm is a huge fan and customer of LinkedIn!
But is the output of the resume an effective one? Can the resume produced by LinkedIn actually replace the resume a product management leader needs to compete in this job market?
Watch our Rapid Resume Review and tell us if you agree with our assessment and recommendations.
Additionally, here are 3 questions you need to ask yourself when determining whether the resume created by an AI platform is going to be effective for your job search:
1. Does it actually represent YOU?
If a resume is reduced to a series of words inserted into fields with little or no regard to the esthetic look and feel of the product, how can it instill any level of confidence that you, a Product Leader, will set a high bar for the product experience you will be responsible for delivering to customers and users?
The way you present your resume communicates a lot about you, so make sure it doesn’t look sloppy.
2. Does it set you apart from other applicants?
- Your outcomes set you apart from other candidates. They are personal to you and will be the reason someone wants to meet you and most likely, hire you.
- Most people don’t take the time to craft a LinkedIn narrative that reflects the details of their careers and outcomes, because it’s a public site. However, people who write their own resumes and control who gets them, are more likely to create an outcome-focused resume loaded with numbers, metrics, stats and all the other details necessary to communicate achievements.
3. Is it too long?
A bot that generates your resume may use everything from its source and it may end up being too long. Nothing is a bigger turn-off than receiving a long resume with content inappropriate for the role or persona of the candidate, make sure it’s within 2 pages if you can.
