Springtime: a season of renewal and growth. Can an AI like ChatGPT really understand the feelings that spring brings to mind for us mortals? Probably not. But it can remix what’s been written about spring into 10 writing prompts for this installment of the Promptly Written promptilicious segment “AI Made Me Do It”!

Part 1: 10 Prompts About Artificial Intelligence
Part 2: 10 Prompts About Love
Part 3: These 10 Prompts are LIES

How This Works

  • Use the following prompts to write anything you’d like: a short story, flash fiction, poem, article, creative nonfiction, etc. Use the prompt in its entirety or change whatever you’d like; it’s up to you!
  • Submit your response here at Promptly Written (please follow the submission guidelines) where it will be edited by yours truly, Casey Lawrence**, to other any publication, or self-publish it.
  • If you publish your story somewhere on Medium other than PW, make sure to include a link to the prompt at the bottom of your story and tag me (Casey) so that I don’t miss out!
  • Have fun!

“AI Made Me Do It”: 10 Writing Prompts About Spring

  1. As the winter snow melts away, a group of animals emerge from hibernation to discover that their forest has changed. Write about their exploration of this strange new world.
  2. A small town prepares for its annual spring festival, which brings together the entire community.
  3. Spring is a time for new beginnings, but for one character, it represents a painful reminder of a past trauma. Write about how they confront their fears and try to move forward.
  4. Write a poem about the sights, sounds, and smells of spring, using vivid sensory details to capture the season’s essence.
  5. The first day of spring coincides with an unexpected snowstorm. Write about how someone reacts to this unexpected turn of events.
  6. Write a story or poem about a character who finds a hidden spring in the forest and the magic it brings to their life.
  7. A group of friends decides to embark on a spring break adventure. Write about the highs and lows of their trip, and how it brings them closer together.
  8. In many cultures, spring is associated with fertility and new life. Write about a character who unexpectedly becomes a parent or caregiver.
  9. Write a poem about the way a cat springs into action when it sees a mouse or bird, its body coiling and releasing like a spring.
  10. Spring is a season of transition, as the world shifts from cold and darkness to warmth and light. Write about a character who navigates a difficult transition in their personal life during this season.

AI generated the above prompts from keywords or elements related to the theme. I select the prompts to include in the post from several chats, and exclude any I find boring, offensive, or derivative (i.e., too close to existing IP or another prompt).

Is it just me, or is ChatGPT getting better at writing prompts? Some of these results ended up being quite playful and unexpected!

Bonus

Here are ten AI-generated ‘micro-prompts’. You can use them as part of your response to the prompts above, or as prompts in their own right!
