Today I Show You My Beautiful Village!
Photo Series of a Paradise on Earth
“Describe your favorite place in the whole world.”
Ever since I wrote about our little village in my ‘About Me’ story, readers have been curious about this magical place that seems to come out of a fairy tale.
And because it fits today’s challenge, I went for a walk with my child and took some photos of this place I call home.
There are only about 1000 inhabitants
living on this little patch of paradise — a collection of historic but well-kept farmhouses in a river valley surrounded by hills.
Most of these hills are forested, and another is covered with vineyards, which continue beyond the village limits.
Entering the village by car, one first passes the road below an expressway. Under this bridge, you can already admire the first work of painted art after entering the village, which shows a boy on a bicycle under a blue sky.
At the bottom right of the painting is a white rose,
which can only allude to the organization of the same name. After all, our village is part of the town of Forchtenberg, the birthplace of the freedom fighter from World War II, Sophie Scholl.
After the underpass, the road seamlessly merges into a bridge that crosses our river. Almost all year round, flowers decorate the railing. 🌼🥀
“A River Cuts Through Rock, Not Because of Its Power, but Because of Its Persistence.”
quote by Jim Watkins
Approaching the bank of the river, you can already hear the sound of the waterfalls, and a cool breeze with the smell of damp earth welcomes the visitor.
When all the swimming pools were closed during the Corona pandemic, people came here to swim in the summer. Sometimes you can also see fishermen or canoeists.
“The True Object of All Human Life Is Play. Earth Is a Task Garden; Heaven Is a Playground.”
quote by Gilbert K. Chesterton
This picture shows one of two playgrounds. The other playground decorates with a story picture of my haiku from day 14 of this challenge.
The playground includes a play box, freely accessible to all children visiting the place.
Right next to it is the sports field with its sports club. We also have a small skate park in the area.
“Village Is a Place Where You Can Find Peace, Unity, Strength, Inspiration and Most Importantly a Natural and Beautiful Life.”
quote by Minahil Urfan
There is a lot of agriculture not only in our village but in the whole district.
And even many who do not run a farm professionally at least maintain their own garden where they grow all kinds of vegetables. 🍅🥒
Some private people also keep animals like chickens or sheep. 🐣🐑
Since the locals here know me as the “newspaperwoman”, I have often been given lettuce, tomatoes, eggs, homemade jam, and other foodstuffs.
Really very nice people! 🤍
“Be Grateful for the Home You Have, Knowing That at This Moment, All You Have Is All You Need.”
quote by Sarah Ban Breathnach
During the last few years, our village center has changed fundamentally.
Our county is not only rich in agriculture but also rich in the industry.
And a few of the largest companies have joined forces and, together with the town, have realized a significant project.
Where there used to be just a few parking spaces, there is now a large marketplace where events are held now and then. Moreover, during a walk, you can sit down on one of the benches and listen to the sound of the river.
In addition, two museums enrich the place.
On the one hand, our local history museum takes you to the history of the village. Here you can learn, among other things, that in the past (before 1925), up to 30% of the inhabitants were Jews.
The other museum presents connection technology in an interactive way, as the majority of investors produce screws. This is especially exciting for children, who are allowed to push all kinds of buttons.
At one of the tables, you can even make your own screws!
A bistro has been set up next to it.
Here I often go for ice cream with my son. 🍨 But you can also get various snacks like soups and salads here. 🍲🥗
🚴♀️ For cyclists with an e-bike, there is a free charging station, which draws its power from the adjacent river in a climate-neutral way.
We have lived here for almost 13 years. Not only is the place absolutely gorgeous, but the residents are like one big family.
