Re Human Day 18
I’m re-thinking my lifestyle — I’m developing myself in 15 areas at a time. This post is part of my Re Human project.
Daily Habits
Fitness: Today I worked out with my friend Cliff. He recorded me doing as many consecutive pull ups as I could, and I set a new personal record, 45. He also taught me tips for holding handstands — pointing my toes and tightening my butt. They were useful, especially tightening my butt.
Books: Reading “The six pillars of self-confidence”. One thing I’ll probably apply to my daily journaling is their “sentence-completion exercises”. Basically, you write 6 completions to a sentence (they say as fast as possible, whatever comes to mind) that make you more conscious and intentional about things. Some example sentences they gave include:
Living consciously to me means…
If I bring more awareness to my most important relationships today...
Self acceptance to me means…
If I lived 5% more assertively today I would…
I think this can be a very powerful exercise, that can be adjusted to whatever area you’d want to improve.
Piano: Today in Flowkey I kept learning about Chords and learned a “popular Reggae song”.
Writing: This post, code, and a daily thought. Also posted about Re Human on my facebook, so I personally consider that “writing” practice as well.
Re Human Extended Activity: Wednesdays is Music Production.
Put together some sounds I found in Splice. Recently (and for a while) I’ve been digging music with a “tribal” feel, with lots of percussion, slow-ish beats, and interesting sounds. Basically something like this song by Sofi Tukker that my friend remixed: Matadora (Medina Remix). It’s in my Saffrón playlist, if you want to listen to more music with similar vibes. They’re great for working, studying, chilling, and long parties.
Meditation: 20mins in morning.
Soccer trick juggling: Practiced while I talked with Cliff. Same as with audiobooks, didn’t feel that much improvement because good deliberate practice requires full focus.
Media Influencer: Cliff recorded me doing several things! Like the pull ups, practicing the human flag, and the shake I make for dinner.
Connections, takeaways and Ideas for tomorrow
Will definitely try the sentence completion exercises. I’ve found daily journaling is very powerful if one has great prompts / questions. I do it in the morning and at night — doesn’t take me more than 3mins each and I can safely say it’s one of my most impactful habits. Will share my prompts/questions and why I use the phrasings that I use in a separate post.
