We are what we repeatedly do. I’m re-inventing myself by improving in 15 areas every week.

This post is part of my Re Human project.

Daily Habits

Books: Today I listened to a podcast on the similarities between being a Showrunner (films) and a founder — with Brian Koppelman and Marc Andreessen in the a16z podcast.

I subscribed to Scribd to try it out again (because it offers unlimited audiobooks and a ton of stuff for $9 per month), which is a great deal for me — since just one audiobook makes up for it. I basically got it back today because I started and finished The Artist’s Way.

Then I finished listening to Curious: the desire to know and why your future depends on it. Some learnings from today:

Good questions to bring out your inner artist out:

What are 5 hobbies that sound fun?

What are 5 things you personally wouldn’t do that sound fun?

What are 5 things you wish you enjoyed doing?

What are 5 things you want to try once?

Facts stored in long term memory join up with other facts and create associative networks of understanding.

Knowledge helps you appreciate the world more.

Meditation: 20 minutes in the morning.

Digital Drawing: Today I watched the next two lessons on the Vitruvian Portrait Drawing Course. On “Keying the Drawing”.

Something really cool I learned (sounds obvious afterwards but I hadn’t thought about it much before this):

the changes in “color” in the face aren’t changes in skin color — skin color is the same — what creates the change is how the shapes of the face interact with light.

my latest version and the portrait I’m going for.

Piano: Today I tried a new piano pattern. Followed along this video:

Writing: This post, journaling (day and night), and scriptwriting for a video.

Re Human Dynamic Activity: Music Production.

Started by adding some stuff to the project I started in my previous session — trying to re-create Light- Instrumental by ODESZA. But as I added things, I decided to just continue with the feeling of the new things added. Used loops included in Logic and it turned out into a good mix, mainly because the loops I chose were in the same key and same tempo, so they fit together pretty well.

I have seen “time signatures” in many places but I still didn’t know what they meant, so today I looked it up on Youtube and learned what it means:

Then watched a video on how to turn audio files to MIDI .

Then connected my MIDI keyboard and made some simple beats with piano. My strategy today was to just layer a bunch of simple beats and see if something nice and complex emerged. Complex yes, nice not so much.

Soccer trick juggling: Today I went out to a nearby park and practiced there!

Fitness: Today I did a ton of sprints up and down this basketball court, then several sets of clapping push-ups (doing maximum I can in 1minute — feel like it could be useful for the chin-ups 1minute record, even though it’s not biceps, it’s training to go all out for one full minute). Then I experimented with a Tabata exercise where I alternated between jumping bodyweight squats and push-ups.
