This week has had a big tech focus as Dr. Jason Ernst, Dr. Dan Gillis, and Dan’s graduate students worked to convert the previously iOS eNuk app to Android. Within the app, new mapping and tagging features were added alongside new Superpeer connectivity options to strengthen the mesh. Meanwhile, Delay Tolerant Network (DTN) proposals were presented, token economic models discussed, research workshops started, and an AMA launched to boot! What a whirlwind!

TL;DR

  • Our Team team worked with Dr. Dan Gillis and his graduate students on converting the previously iOS eNuk app to Android;
  • Map and tagging features added to the eNuk app;
  • Our Product team worked with Dr. Rogayeh Tabrizi, who holds a Ph.D in Economics and specializes in game theory, to discuss detailed token economic models;
  • Early DTN proposal created by Dr. Lucien Loiseau;
  • Announcement of AMA to be hosted on May 17th, 2018;
  • The team recognized Mental Health Week by hosting daily exercises and discussions;

Tech

  • eNuk: Last week Dr. Dan Gillis and some of his graduate students visited the Maple Ridge office to work on converting the previously iOS eNuk app to Android. This entailed customizing MeshIM into an eNuk skinned version.
    A map, in which users can drop a pin to record their location, an image, a photo, or anything they like about a particular spot in the community, was added. The map system is designed to be used offline, and thus on the land within the Rigolet community. Once a pin is dropped, the user can enter a description, a title or an emotion associated with the data, and optional pictures.
    If the person is in a rural area, the data will be cached on their device until they return to the edge of the mesh in the town. The data will then forward to a local Superpeer running from town hall.
    To prevent strain on the limited bandwidth available in the town, the local Rigolet superpeer is scheduled to sync with a global Superpeer at night. There, the data will be stored into a centralized database where it can be analyzed.
  • DTN Planning: Lead Mesh Networking Scientist, Dr. Lucien Loiseau, has provided the tech team with some early proposals on how the DTN network functionality might be integrated into RightMesh. The tech team is currently reviewing the proposals.

Product

  • Product Roadmap: The platform roadmap is nearly complete as our Product Manager, Andrea Ainslie has been flushing out the final details for the next three quarters.
  • Token Economic Models: This week John, Chris, Jason and Saju had some great discussions on detailed token economic models. Working with them is Dr. Rogayeh Tabrizi, who holds a Ph.D in Economics and specializes in game theory and behavioral economics. Their next step is building a mathematical model that we can simulate to determine token usage under different network and behavioural conditions.

RightLabs

Our RightLabs team have started their research workshop with our apps development team in Bangladesh. This is a four week program to integrate user research as an integral step in building app prototypes.
