O Laksmi ! To you — glory, glory, all glory,
May you be merciful to me endlessly,
Give me men, refuge and money,
Consider me as your own devotee.

The world’s treasure owner to you victory,
Blessed with good luck and fortune totally,
Goddess luxuriating in water-born lotus — glory,
Wandering from heart to heart unendingly.

Glory, glory to you, O Mother Laksmi,
Beloved of Vishnu, daughter of Jalanidhi,
Sunderradas tells you with prayerful humility,
O Mother you are his only support truly.

You fulfil every want and grant happiness fully,
Why delay being merciful to the helpless only,
The ancient world’s origin, consort of Vishnu truly,
Dispeller of gloom covering the three spheres wholly.

To none has truth been comprehensible — your mystery,
In a moment you sow seeds of harvest and prosperity,
The Evil fails to uncover your secret infinite actually,
So matchless, mysterious, and endless is your glory.

The new moon lies on your crowned head brilliantly,
Your third eye adorns the middle of your forehead surely,
Gems strings sway around your neck as pendants dazzlingly,
While your green bodice on your body looks splendidly.

The garland of lotuses on your bosom looks superbly,
Shames the thousand-faced Serpent-King with its beauty,
You are clad in a russet sari the border of which is skilfully,
Studded with pure emerald — flutters in the wind magnificently.

A bunch of triple bells studded with gems on your girdle be,
And ankle-bells gingling on your lotus-feet magnificiantly,
You are verily a source of inextinguishable refulgence infinitely,
Endowed with eighteen arms equipped with weapons beautifully.

Outstanding are a club, lotus, a three-pronged trident truly,
A sword, a conch, a disc, a bow and arrows impressively,
A thunderbolt, vessel of wood or earth, noose or trap surely,
An axe and a sacred string of Rudraksa seeds remarkably.

A vessel with nectarine juice adorns one of your hands justly,
The gong rings deeply proclaims over demons your victory,
O Mother, the story of your origin is delightful incessantly,
So say the Vedas and Purans who join in singing your glory.

When Brahma was displeased with the demons angerly,
A war broke out between them and the gods ultimately,
It was so dreadful a battle that all feared and were rickety,
All the three spheres turned into a vast battlefield eventually.

Then demon Mahisa displaying his spirited might clearly,
Vanquished the gods with the help of a deception unfairly,
And crowning himself king of the celestials ultimately,
Sat celebrating on the throne of Indra puffed triumphantly.

Observing this Vishnu and Shiv lost their temper wholly,
Raised their eyerbrows with growing intense and fury,
Goddess Laksmi, you appeared from the rich soil brilliantly,
By your energy and radiance congealed within your body.

When gods and ascetics saw you they were joyous finally,
Each blessed you their weapon of power unhesitatingly,
In your face dwells Samkara as your radiance surely,
On your arms lies Vishnu as your lustre and vigour loftly.

Brahma became your feet and Sun your fingers brightly,
Agni, the fire god, became the light of your eyes glowingly,
Prajapati gave you the rows of beautiful teeth shiningly,
And Lord Kubera gave you your name Laksmi befittingly.

You thus got all your might from gods unquestionably,
You become the embodied strength of the gods finally,
When you laughed and roared like thunder-clouds loadly,
All ten quarters shook and trembled with fear unmistakably.

The ocean leapt and the earth moved drastically,
A fierce battle raged not describable accurately,
Earth’s burden was unbearable for Serpent-King truly,
And with utter weariness made him hiss violently.

Even the Mountains trembled ever uncontrollably,
As do men’s mind who think of Ram adversely.
When Mahisa used his powers in all ways ineffectively,
He consequently got wearied of all their invulnerability.

Then you caught hold of his hair and slew him finally,
And celestial Deities beat their kettle drums joyously
Blessed, all blessed are you O Mother Sri reverently,
Your praise is sung by Shiv and many others happily.

O cosmos originator none match you in generosity,
You bless even the wretched with bliss and prosperity,
O Mother, if any one is devoted to you with sincereity,
He will be rid of all his fears, afflictions and anxiety.

O Laksmi, are ever in service of Truth consistently,
And reside in the hearts of the truthful devotees
O Mother, if one sings your glories with all sincerity,
You fill his home with inexhaustible treasures in reality.

Riches pour down on one who observes the beauty,
Of your countenance and touches your feet reverently,
Filled with elated delight and yearns for your sight daily,
Mother, hear my repeated cries show yourself lovingly.

With the sage Durvasa in his mind consistently,
Sundaradasa holds on your feet of mother Laksmi,
He has been rewarded by her with a treasure truly,
Instead of diminishing brings increasing bliss daily.
