In the company of chickadees

The chickadees flit
in a flurry of wings,
like bits of stiffened paper.

As I approach
bearing seeds
for their communal feeder

they call to each other
with burbling songs;
black and white couriers

sharing the news
with their best mates
and favorite neighbors.

Oh, how I wish they might
land…
