Hey Self-ish people!

Happy New Year! It seems just the other day we were counting down to the first second of 2022 and now we’re already one month in, but who’s counting? Anyway, we have ‘torn off’ a whole calendar and we still have you here. We do not take that for granted, thank you.

Updates

Self-ish been on an informal mini-freeze in the past three months, because… well, life. It happened. To us. For some of us ‘it’ was hard, busy for some, confusing sometimes, and at other times, thankfully good.

Which is why we are still here, self-ish as always.

We have begun the year excited about bringing back the Self-ish spirit to Medium and we are ready to serve you our personal, authentic, and black stories yet again.

Oldies but Goodies

While we bring on the deluge of pieces we have for you, here are some of our older stories that you should definitely read again. Of course, all our stories are amazing, but these are from the Editor’s Pick.

  • Kuna’s Woman Next Door is definitely one to read again! This is a dark, fictional account of a lovely woman who lures unsuspecting men into her home and murders them at night. Talk about sweet but deadly!
  • Beltusbebongchu’ piece, It was Something In the Little Things, is about how watching his baby niece, loving his father, enjoying his mother’s cuisine, and even the sun and rain, taught him to write again.
  • Sakeenah_T’s Love Says is a beautiful poem you should read even more than twice. What does your love say?

Here’s work by two of our newest writers:
