Why You Shouldn’t Write Love Letters With AI

Everybody is talking about what they can do with AI these days, and how these tools can make their lives easier in numerous ways. But one way it won’t make your life easier is if you use artificial intelligence to communicate in your interpersonal relationships. In fact, if you feel tempted to write your partner a love letter using AI, or a note to your friends or family members, you’ll end up doing more harm than good.

According to a study in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, while you may save time using artificial intelligence tools to craft messages to your partner, friends, or family, they will not appreciate it if they found out you got this assistance. In fact, this can even cause people to question how much you care about them and the relationship.

During the study, researchers Bingjie Liu, Jin Kang, and Lewen Wei asked 208 online participants to imagine a scenario where they’re going to reach out to their good long-term friend, Taylor, who would be sending them a supportive message in return.
