MSB Drinks & Pitch Night —Sept 2017

It was another cold and wet night. We had just over 250 RSVPs. And our venue sponsor had another event double booked in the Heritage Room upstairs where we usually meet. They had to move us downstairs to the Governors Lounge at short notice. Capacity around 150. Welcome to #startuplife.

It was one time we hoped that not every ‘yes’ RSVP would turn up. The weather came to our rescue. Only about 125 turned up. And the room was packed and pumping.

It was so right, that we are thinking of making our room the permanent space for future MSB Drinks & Pitch Nights. Which means we will have to cap the RSVPs at around 200, even allowing for the usual no shows.

As we race towards 10,000 members (we are at 8,400 as I write), this is going to be counter intuitive — we should be moving to a bigger event space, not smaller. But bigger is not always better.

If you missed the pitch night, or want to relive it, here is the video. A big thank you to our volunteer videographer Harjit, John (the MC) and the Event Hosts for the night — Alexar & Rogan. Without them, this event wouldn’t have happened. Also a big thank you to our venue sponsor Royal Melbourne Hotel for somehow accommodating us every month.

41:20 Roy, an inventor. Roy is a regular pitcher with an innovative bolt. We still don’t have contact details for Roy!
43:24 Kim. Spectablend. Kim had us wondering how Spectablend fit into the Silicon Beach motto of “Empowering Innovators”. Well, startup founders need to eat and drink healthy. Enough of coke & pizza. Spectablend it is. 44:30 Jeremiah. Working on a prototype for fast charging devices. I’d like one, please. No website as yet.
