There is nothing sadder than seeing a team with so much potential so early into their competitive life. But as short as this squad has lasted, they made a huge impression on the scene from the moment of their debut in SCL 51. Composed of members from Extermination and a few other pickups, Sorrow quickly was picked up by InControl and made a name for themselves in the scene.

We can only imagine what heights this squad could have achieved. The best we can do now is congratulate the team on a Top 10 finish in Season 2, and wish their future endeavors the best.

This is a team whose Season 2 appearances actually belie how dominant this team actually is. Each of their players are rockstars by Splatoon standards, all high-profile veterans of the scene. Backed by OpenRec, Japan’s premier streaming site, this team is ready to take the Splatoon world by storm.

Their trademark is their adaptability, as seen in the post-Koshien interview where people remarked on how flexible their weapon compositions have been. And while most teams have been plagued by each patch release, GG BoyZ have shown adaptability to an extreme degree. As Splatoon Esports becomes more popular, GG BoyZ will be there to wow the crowd.

It’s another amazing Seasonal finish for the California boys, this time making sure they cement their positions as one of the strongest teams in the Western scene. Their highly varied lineup allows them to tackle any challenger as they look to prove themselves as the best in the scene.

Their dominance from LUTI to weeklies show just how talented these young squids are. And while there was a bit of a lull as some members formed Eclipse, the return of former members have helped to re-bolster their strengths. Next time, it’s number one or bust.

Ethereal has every right to be the top Western team. Their hot streak in January rocketed them to the top of the power rankings with wins over other top teams including Team Olive, Saikai, and Kraken Paradise. Of note is how much individually they have improved over the last few months, with Ben and Wadsm showing fantastic plays with blasters and buckets respectively.

Even though their results in InkCage II and Platinum Cup were not as astounding, their respectable 4th place finishes in both events continued to win over the crowd. This is especially the case with Japan after their intense 9-game set against Libalent Calamari for 3rd place. If the trend continues, this team may be the best in the world before long.

Meteor earns its spot as the highest ranked Japanese squad in the Top 50 due to their amazing performances in both SPCS Winter and Platinum Cup 3, upsetting popular teams in both the Japanese and Western scenes. Of note was Tentoton’s early adoption of the Splat Brella and Slosher Deco as mid-range weapons, two weapons which quickly became meta afterwards.

However, Meteor’s presence in the Japanese scene quickly dropped off. In DAIOU cup they played with Torumarin from Lumonde instead of Banan and landed a respectable 9th place finish. Their future as a top Japanese team is a little uncertain as others are quickly coming to take their place. But, for the amazing effort this team has made, they can bask the glow of their victories for a while longer.
