There is something special about a team that is able to win a Young Ink series event. Whether it’s the confidence of winning their first tournament or the prospect of a future that follows it. Whatever the case is, S4 has started their Splatoon 2 careers with a bang. So much so that one of their members, PokeFan, was actually recruited to join Team Olive’s roster, signifying great things for the team in general.

Expect to see this young team make their way through the circuits of tournaments that shape many a squid into a powerful competitor.

Tomo.rear, Fuyudora, shou, and Raito are another Japanese semi-consistent pickup squad who just so happens to have done well in enough tournaments to qualify for the Top 50.

In all seriousness, Final Exam! is a team that exemplifies the growing trend of semi-pickup squads taking names left and right in the scene. Admittedly, this is one of the more consistent teams in the Japanese scene without actually announcing themselves as a full on team. They’re still looking for a major tournament win, so prepare to see them a lot more in the coming days.

Sakana no Gakkou may actually be one of the strongest Japanese teams not rated in the top ten, as this roster is actually one of the many pickup teams that Puremia/Mayuge/Rito run. Their top tier achievements include 2nd Himawari, Clams Challenge 2, Christmas Cup 2017, 2nd Royal Cup, 3rd Cinderella Cup…

The point is, this semi-pickup group have demonstrated themselves as a top tier Japanese team who unfortunately could only be recorded once or twice given how Japan is rated. The trio’s ability to play any weapon allows them to quickly adapt to the changing meta every month and even pull ahead of others in some cases.

Alright, before the pitchforks are raised, know that STDx only made two appearances in the entirety of Season Two: 3rd WFB Cup (Top 8 finish) and Genesis 5 (American LAN). Their placement in the top 50 belies just how strong this squad actually is. Not only are they historically a prominent team, they are also one of the few teams who have broken into the Japanese scene relatively successfully.

Their scant appearances at tournaments make it hard to rate them against other top teams, but every off chance they appear, they always come out swinging. And that’s something that no number can fully explain. The hope is that this squad will see more future tournaments as they are a very special squad in the scene.

You’re going to see a lot of these Japanese teams in the Top 50 with recognizable names as they appear in many, many other pickup squads. TNTN System is no different. This team was formed for the sole purpose of competing in SPCS, where they would eventually take 5th place after qualifying via the Koshien qualifier.

Individually the members have attained a variety of Top 8 finishes in many different teams. Asriel and Yoshi are often seen in these tournaments together. Rentana and Reki are also familiar names, belonging to the Japanese squad A-Step.
