Sustainability Calendar — What’s Happening in June 2021
Helping you to plan climate and sustainability action in June
Welcome to my monthly overview of the Sustainability Calendar. The full year-long calendar is here. Scroll down for the full list of events in June.
Summary
June is the home of a couple of big events: World Environment Day on Saturday, 5th June, followed closely by World Ocean Day on Tuesday, 8th June. Both remind us of the importance of our environments and the roles they play in supporting all life on Earth.
Also, this month is one of the biggest events for a while, the G7 Summit, to be held at Carbis Bay in Cornwall, UK. The hosts, the UK government, has promised that the climate crisis will be foremost on the agenda for this summit, but can we expect any concrete actions to come out of the three-day meeting of world leaders, or will it just be another talking session, with no real progress made?
Finally, this month we have animal days for Lynxes (11 June), Cougars (12 June), Sea Turtles (16 June), Crocodilians (17 June), Giraffes (21 June) and Camels (22 June)

Behind the Scenes
This month I’ve launched the Sustainability Calendar’s Instagram account, where we can keep the focus on holidays and days of action.
You’ll also notice that Sustainability Calendar now has its own publication here on Medium. I’ve separated this as I felt that the monthly summaries were taking over somewhat and wanted my Rethink Convenience publication to stick to the original intent of documenting my individual sustainability journey. Stories posted to the Sustainability Calendar publication will remain free to read to keep this information accessible to everyone.
The full 12-month calendar is here. I need your help to make this the best resource it can be. If you know of an event that’s missing, let me know either in the comments or on social media.
