What does it take to be a creative?

Is there a point when you can be considered creative enough to have it be a part of your identity?

What does it take to be a professional?

Is there a point when something you do can be considered work enough to have it be a part of your job?

Those were my first thoughts after Bianca Bass agreed to come on Comatose Podcast. After a few awkward emails I knew I wanted to ask her about her inspirations and aspirations.

What really made me curious about Bianca’s life though was her successful combination of creativity and professionalism. That desirable goal that is cliché on Medium.

It’s a few quick steps from combining creativity and professionalism to feeling like you’re talking about some bullshit marketing something or another trying to add value to something that has none. It can feel like being sold someone’s newest brand of self-help snake oil.

I knew Bianca was different.

She is a successful professional, but she is still passionate and genuinely interested in the topics she writes about. I was drawn to read her work after stumbling upon a few of her stories here on The Coffeelicious and saw that she is assuredly not someone just trying to make a quick buck.

Her passion for building a career and being successful isn’t the stuff of dreams. It’s her life. She may not be living as a brooding artist in a rundown apartment, but she is a professional writer and gets to be express herself creatively and professionally.

All that was on my mind when I dove into Bianca’s work in an effort to come up with some questions to ask her.

So after getting a better feel for the person behind the keyboard, I sent off my questions and could only wait, looking forward to hearing her voice in response.
