Traveling, better yet living in another country, is a much-needed experience for people living in today’s fast growing global communities.

It is not only important for people to travel, but to truly experience living in a new environment. If at all possible going somewhere that has a noticeably different culture from your own. In my case I spent two semesters in Japan. It was one of the best experiences of my life and forever changed how I view the world.

We should travel not only to learn about other cultures, but to better learn more about our own cultures and furthermore, ourselves.

When you travel to another country you get to view your homeland as a foreign land. You may start to view it a bit differently than you had while living there. People do things differently everywhere. Many people from various places on earth have survived and thrived for thousands of years behaving in ways that you may think is strange or downright wrong. Let me assure you that it isn’t wrong, its just new to you.

One of the most beautiful things in this life is that we are all different, and this makes it possible for us to learn from each other.

When you take the time to live among people far away from where you grew up you will surely learn something from them, whether it is their traditional greetings or recipes or even learn how your blood-type may have something to do with your personality. There are plenty of reasons or excuses one can make for not taking the leap to visit or live in another country, but one thing is for sure, if you ignore those excuses and take a chance you will enjoy a once in a life time experience, make lasting friendships while seeing another part of the world and possibly learning a second or third language.

The benefits of living in foreign country are numerous, and it will definitely be something to tell your friends and family back home. But beware-

As I said from the beginning this experience will change you forever.

Be ready for that.

It will likely be a change for the good.

Experiencing other cultures is a great way to learn how to accept people for who they are and not what they look like or what religious practices they have or what they eat for breakfast.

A good trip around the world will teach you that people are people.

We all live and we all die.

Life is for the living, go out and live life and be sure to learn some things along the way. Every one of us who goes out and experiences another culture brings all of us closer together.

After all, we are not so different.
