Inspired by the upcoming Dutch Design Week this October, our TIS Weekly is all about Digital Design! Great developments: artificial intelligence, big data, digital transformation, internet of things and privacy! Buzzwords or bullshit bingo? Time will tell…
This week we open the discussion on three different topics: disruptive technology, sharing economy and privacy.

Theme | FINANCE
“There’s no such thing as disruptive technology.”

Blockchain is the technology behind Bitcoin, but it’s so much more than a monetary system. In the coming years it will affect several industries and professions: banks, accountants, notaries and governments. Watch the quick update and consider the statement above.

Theme | SHARING ECONOMY
“The Sharing Economy doesn’t work.”

A call to action from Janelle Orsi to rethink the business model of the Sharing Economy. As it is now, the concept is built on the business-as-usual foundation, while Orsi argues that companies and its customers should commit to cooperatives. Get back to sharing!

Theme | INTERNET OF THINGS
“Privacy-issues prevent innovation.”

The Bristol is Open project tries to connect all the city’s data streams into one programmable city. On the question of citizens’ privacy Paul Wilson (Managing Director) replies: “This city is a laboratory where the citizens are not treated as guinea pigs, because there is a real risk this starts to feel like Big Brother. So we try to have an open conversation with people on how they wish to engage.”

Theme | SOCIAL INNOVATION
Offline innovation

Design studio IDEO has worked together with students of Northwestern University to create the Row Planter. This machine helps Ethopian farmers to innovate the teff (grain) production, the nation’s most important crop.

Add your own videos and maybe they will feature in the next TIS Weekly. Questions? Remarks? Ideas? hello@tis.tv is the address! From TIS with love, Simone de Bruin.
