Happy feet

In Kenya 2,6 million people are affected by the jigger flea and its attacks can lead to terrible symptoms: sores, inflammation and infections which can result in deformed feet. Many sufferers cannot wear regular-sized shoes anymore, which is why two students at Nairobi University have come up with personalized 3D-printed shoes. Best thing? The shoes are made from recycled plastic bottles!

There’s an app for that..!

This video shows how a smartphone can easily help with diagnoses. You will see two different health apps: one that can replace expensive ultrasound machines and the other is an easy way of testing for Malaria. Both apps are designed to give more people access to affordable healthcare.

Fly away, malaria!

Getting Malaria is avoidable, but not all Africans have the means to buy expensive repellents. That’s where Faso Soap comes in. No changes in behavior are required (‘…everybody already uses soap’) and it’s a cheap way to ward off this killer mosquito.

Medical tablet

Cameroon. 20 million people. 30 heart surgeons. Not nearly enough medical assistance with enough time to treat and diagnose all heart patients. Introducing a possible solution: Cardiopad — the machine is able to make ECGs and sent them to medical specialists for further analysis.
