I’m glad to hear you liked our previous newsletter about sustainable energy solutions (wave and kinetic energy, hummingbird-inspired wind turbines and solar roofs). So here’s another selection of clean energy alternatives. This week’s bonus: scroll all the way down for our short
TIS = Energy.

Wind: Tree turbines

Imagine having one of those large wind turbines in your backyard, not very appealing is it? Now, take a look at the Wind Trees by the French company NewWind, with ‘blades’ that capture wind starting at 5 mph. Although you could argue whether it is aesthetically pleasing and whether this €50,000 euro turbine is scalable, it’s good to see artists and designers contributing to new innovations.

Gas: Hivos Biogas Programme

Our friends at Hivos have an extensive biogas programme and help poor families turn bio waste into energy with the biogas digester. This way, families can save the money and time they normally spend on wood or fuels. Take a look at this video recorded in Arusha, Tanzania.

Solar: SolarTurtle

How to get electricity to rural areas in Africa? How to make sure the system is theft-proof? See how SolarTurtle uses individual battery packs (inside of recycled bottles), solar panels and a shipping container to create a theft-proof and profitable mobile energy solution.

Kinetic: The soccer ball generator

Uncharted Play is using sports and play to empower small families. The Uncharted Play soccer ball is charged by people kicking it around the pitch. This raw power can later be used as an off-grid power source.

TIS = Energy

In 2016 we made this cool short on the future of energy. It contains quite a few surprising clean energy solutions. I mean, gravity as a generator for energy? Who knew!

Add your own videos and maybe they will feature in the next TIS Weekly. Questions? Remarks? Ideas? hello@tis.tv is the address! From TIS with love, Simone de Bruin.
