Australian Workers Party

--

So this is basically the Labor Party, just much much smaller, and with more progressive policy. And to be fair, what else should you expect when it was set up by Labor defectors.

But beyond that, there isn’t really a huge amount of information out there on the party, and if I’ve said the ALP is tolerable, I probably have to give the same here.

Policy

Unsurprisingly, the party’s platform wouldn’t be too out of place if it was ALP policy. They want stronger unions (but also want them to be more democratic and less involved with the political system). They want clean energy and taxation which works better for ordinary workers. But they also have a weirdly specific policy on shipping which is a bit strange, but I’ll let it slide.

However, the party’s main policy is a universal job guarantee, where everyone can access a basic community job which pays minimum wage, which sounds like a half-decent idea. The best part of this policy, however, is one of the FAQ’s:

A question I ask myself daily.

Which of course if ripe for the memeing:

The only way to be sure is to ask.

Vote for them if

You aren’t sure what is communism.
