Democratic Labour Party

Overview

--

Born out of the ALP split of 1955 (yes, that long ago), the DLP has existed at the fringe of Australian politics for a very long time, which you think would have made them a somewhat sensible party. You would be wrong.

While they claim they’re “neither ‘Left’ nor ‘Right’”, one quick look at their policy and history would tell you otherwise. The best way I can describe them is a conservative ALP, which really isn’t a ringing endorsement. But any party that’s still salty with the group they split with over 60 years ago probably isn’t a great choice of representative.

Policy

A lot of their policy really shows their social conservatism, with an anti-abortion stance and disliking same-sex parenting. However, it seems like they want better treatment of refugees, but they are very vague which is never a good sign. Their workplace relations and foreign affairs policy is a little bit closer to the centre though, so they manage to just sneak in to the centre-right area.

But the real sign that the DLP is a bit insane is their energy policy that focuses on something called ‘Polywell fusion’, which is nowhere near being a viable power source yet. And as much as I enjoy some good science fiction, it should not form the basis of part of your policy.

Vote for them if

You’re still bitter at an ex from 60 years ago.
