Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party

--

When a party is created by someone who’s nickname is “the human headline”, things are probably going to get interesting. When that person has also appeared in an Anchorman fight scene ripoff with a pitchfork, you know you’re definitely right.

This is why we shouldn’t cut funding to the SBS or ABC

Derryn Hinch is a character, to say the least. He’s been convicted of contempt of court 3 separate times for releasing the names of sex offenders. He used his first speech to parliament, where he’s protected by parliamentary privilege, to do the same.

All of that is to say that he very clearly has strong opinions on justice, but goes about implementing them in an interesting way. But I can see where he’s coming from, and on the scale of shit we see in Australian politics, actually standing up for what you believe in is vaguely tolerable in my books.

Policy

Most of their policy is very focused on law and order, and being more strict on offenders, which is more of a classically right-wing idea. They want stricter bail and parole, and a public register of sex offenders, similar to what WA currently has.

However, they’re also committed to legalising voluntary euthanasia and promoting animal rights, so they do manage to work across the aisle pretty well.

Vote for them if

You own a pitchfork.
