Katter’s Australian Party
I have mixed feelings about Bob Katter. On the one hand, he somewhat epitomises the trashiness of Australian politics and actively contributes to some of the worst parts of it, but on the other hand he sometimes does things like this and makes all the pain worth it.
But despite being the most unstable person in politics (a pretty high bar too), you can’t look past the fact that he supported former-KAP senator Fraser Anning’s maiden speech to parliament, in which he stated he wanted a return to the White Australia Policy and advocated for a ‘final solution’ to immigration.
Thankfully, Katter ditched Anning in October last year, but supporting someone “1000%” for a speech like that when even One Nation starts distancing themselves exposes you as flaming garbage.
Policy
Their policy is very regional Queensland focused, but given that’s where the party is based and where the majority of their voter base comes from, it makes sense. They want to loosen gun laws, have a specific policy around crocodile management, but they also have seemingly reasonable Indigenous affairs policy.
However, they don’t have a huge amount of policy on their website, especially any that really reflects their values, which are typically right wing. Because honestly who isn’t surprised that the shouty old white man is pretty damn conservative.
