VOTEFLUX.ORG | Upgrade Democracy!

--

Another direct democracy party, and if you read my profile on Climate Action! Immigration Action! Accountable Politicians!, you know we’re going to have problems here.

But Flux somehow manages to be even worse. Not just because their system is more broken than the other direct democracy party. Not just because their registered party name is a website. Not even because one of their candidates is a biohacker called Meow-Ludo Disco Gamma Meow-Meow.

No, what truly makes this party even worse is the fact that they ran 26 fake independent candidates in the WA State Election as a deliberate attempt to trick people into voting for them. And any party that tries to subvert the democratic system, especially when they claim it’s broken and only they have the solution, is not a party that deserves any power.

Policy

You vote on issues on an app and the Flux representatives vote based on the results. That is their only policy.

Most of the criticisms I levelled at Climate Action! still stand here. We pay our politicians an extortionate amount to do a job which this party will not do, and no system is immune from hacking or manipulation. There are additional problems here though.

First of all, you can be a member of another political party and still be a member of Flux, and use the Flux app to vote on legislation. The only people who will download an app like that are people already very engaged with the political process and system. Most of whom are already members of other political parties.

So basically all you have is the major parties mobilising their members to overrun these polls to get an extra vote or two on the floor of parliament.

But it gets worse, because you can trade your votes away on some issues to get additional votes on others. So all that will happen is members of the major parties will coordinate within their party groups to sell votes on issues they know will pass or have unilateral support, to then gain votes on battleground issues where the additional parliamentary votes would actually matter.

Which is when you realise that this is basically what we already have, except its negotiating with crossbench MP’s instead of rigging the vote on an app.

Congratulations Flux for proposing a radical new change to the exact same system.

Vote for them if

You don’t understand how our political system works.
