Tennis Champion and Entrepreneur Maria Sharapova invests in Public.com
Today, we’re so excited to welcome Public.com’s newest investor: world-class tennis champion and entrepreneur Maria Sharapova.
Maria shares our mission to make the public markets work for all people and our vision to help people become better investors. For Maria, that means leveling the (investing) playing field for everyone, especially young women, and helping empower and bring more women into the stock market for the first time. Women, and specifically women of color, statistically invest less than men. Beyond creating accessibility, Maria is committed to making investing more approachable. Maria’s experience in the business world is invaluable — from being the sole teenager at the table for brand deals with Nike and Evian, to founding her premium confection line, Sugarpova, to expanding her business portfolio through multiple investments since her retirement from tennis in 2020.
“After winning my first Grand Slam at 17 years old, I was introduced to the business world at a young age with new brand deals and business opportunities,” said Maria Sharapova. “It can be a very intimidating environment and one that I had to learn to navigate as just a teenager. I really appreciate how Public helps break down the category into simple, educational, user-friendly steps to make investing less intimidating and help users take control of their finances more confidently.”
