We all likely got a message in childhood that we, as adults, know is not true. But because we were kids, we soaked it up like a wet sponge.

It is easy to tell ourselves, ‘That was then.’ and ‘This is now.’

But let’s face it.

As you sail the ship of your life toward your dreams, these old beliefs and messages can cause your ship to collide with the rocks of despair.

What is below the surface?

Messages that got delivered long ago are below the surface.

And even though you may have developed a good sense of navigation around the rocks that would have crashed others, you cannot see what lies below your surface. Read that sentence again.

We all need someone to guide us past the rocks we cannot see.

Who is your sonar?

People who do not have a sonar eventually run their ship onto the rocks. At that point, they have two options:

a) They can stay crashed onto the rocks forever and cry about how they are the victim of these rocks, or

b) They can decide to set sail to the land of their dreams with a sonar guiding them.

Who is your sonar?

If you do not have one yet, what is below your surface?

Where are you heading?

When I was very young, I got a message that hurt me in ways I did not understand. It impacted everything I did, from my relationships to how much money I made. That message was a hidden rock in my life.

I did not see that rock. How could I since it was below the surface? As a result, I kept crashing onto it.

But I got tired of the pain.

I asked for help.

I hired a mentor who is my sonar.

Who is your sonar?

How do you sail rough seas?

Every vision will inevitably sail into rough seas where the waves are high, visibility is low, and crashing onto the rocks seems inevitable. But let me ask you.

When the waves are high, how do you face overwhelm?

When the skies are raging, how do you see clearly?

With a sonar by your side, of course!

Are you equipped for the journey?

Eden Eruç spent five years going around the globe, using only human power (rowing, biking, hiking, etc.) He went on his quest armed with a phone, dried eggs, pineapple slices, and an iPod. He did not have an easy ride. But he wanted it with all his heart.

After 147 days of rowing and sun blisters all over his body, Eric got caught between two winds going opposite ways. He kept rowing and rowing, determined to get through with sheer will.

Let me tell you.

Eric rowed in circles for two weeks before he realized what he had done.

Can you imagine what that felt like?

It is vital to be the captain of your ship. It matters to know where you are going.

The most experienced sailor going on a journey knows they must have a clear line of communication with the land (a radio) and a clear line of communication with the ocean (a sonar.)

If you are trying to sail to the land of your dreams:

What is your communication system? Is it highly effective? Or is it one-way, and you are not listening?

Who is your sonar?
