Women make up 70 percent of the travel consumer base and more than 80 percent of travel purchasing decisions, and yet travel media remains largely male-dominated. In Spring 2018, Unearth Women was born as a media company dedicated to championing female travelers.We released the first issue of Unearth Women magazine in September 2018, featuring VICE HBO correspondent Isobel Yeung on the cover. That first issue — The Resilience Issue — took readers around the globe, sharing stories from Argentina to South Africa. With just 1,000 magazines printed and sold independetly via our website, we waited with bated breath to see how readers would react. A few months later, our second issue — The Consent Issue, featuring CNN’s Lisa Ling on the cover — would appear in bookstores around the world. Today, Unearth Women is a media company with a team of more than 15 women, a podcast dedicated to exploring feminism from a global perspective, a rapidly growing digital site, women-only tours, and a quarterly magazine sold worldwide. Unearth Women continues to blossom because of the many women who lent us their voice, their story, their support, and their talents.
